Okay, so this surprises me. I am a history major at UCLA and I was thinking that my degree is worthless (it kind of is). But that pales in comparison to the fact that only about 30% of Americans above the age of 25 have a degree. I don't understand how they make it in life, then? The average american salary is 40,000 a year, but if you don't have a degree - how do you reach that sum?

I am confused. Someone want to shed light onto the matter?

Hi there - does anyone have some advice? I have an MSc (earned in the UK) in International Politics, and while doing that, realized what I would love to do is get into global health policy, specifically around HIV/AIDS issues. 1) Do I need another degree if I have no developing country experience, but experience in grant writing at int'l development NGOs 2) I don't have a head for science (epidemiology, etc.) - is a public policy degree with a thesis on health policy better for me? 3) Should I go for another masters or would a PhD be better? 4) Do I need to start now on a PhD if I'm going to do that? I'm 28 now, would be 29 if entered next year, but would prefer to wait a year to figure things out, so I would be 30-too old? I don't really want to pursue a tenure-track academic position but would love to teach on an adjunct/associate basis at some point in the future. I also would like to get back to the UK to work in the future, and UK universities are keen to hire Americans...thanks!

I have just returned from a year of work, and have come back to start my degree, but only 1 month into it, I am finding it realli difficult to study and get my head down, I also have no motivation. The problems I used to cope with, I just can't be bothered to learn any more.

Any ideas on how I can try and improve the situation? Feel quite down about it now...

I'm a senior in High school and I am begining to apply for colleges. I'm the first to go on to college in my family and am VERY Ambisious. I'm so confused about this whole college situation and what I should do. I don't know what to major in nor, what I want to do in the future. I'm currrently taking Pre-Calc., college writing, and accouting. I'm soon going to take Calculous, anotomy and phys., physcology. I really enjoy science and Math. I'm not an english or history person at all. I used to want to go into pharmacy but changed my mind. It's hard for me to ask my family about college because no one has the experience. Is it okay to be undecided while applying to colleges? Will that lessen your chance of getting in? I have the potential to go extremely far in my life. My class rank is 74 out of 316, not too bad. My GPA is around 3.4, not to bad either. I just need a little advice. I don't know what to major in..

I live in Los Angeles County and would love to stay close to my family after the recent loss of my mom. I am a junior level transfer student and was graced with admittance to both UC campuses at Irvine and at Davis for Winter(I start in 2 months).
I took the answer one Yahoo member provided me with (thank you!) and went to visit the campus at Davis. I have visited Irvine, but did not go on a campus tour and left with a bad vibe.

My major is definitely History...but I will probably double or triple major/minor in Political Science or International Relations or Italian or English.

I felt that UC Davis put on a better show than Irvine, but then again, I spent my visit at Irvine in the counseling office, trying to figure out my school situation and didn't see much of the campus.
I have to decide by the 31st.

Dining at UCI looks awful
Davis has no lights
I like the beach
I like people a lot
I like being busy
Parties are OK
I love being involved w/ school
I adapt easily
Irvine is safe

Is G.E.D. really worth it? I want to become a doctor, but the thing is that i've been in the 9th grade 3 years and now in in the 10th.. so that means i have another 3 years ahead of me. "if i pass". But ive been thinking about getting a G.E.D. because im so sick of high school. its a waste of time now. anyway i kno if i get a GED i wont be able 2 get the best jobs in the world.. but i do know that i want 2 go to Georgia Perimiter College (GPC) for 1 year or mabye even 2. and then transfer to UGA (a very good university).. and hopefully do well and become a doctor. But the only thing i dont know is can i do all these things if i drop out of high school and obtain a G.E.D and then accomplis my goals of becoming a doctor? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP.. i have AIM (AOL instant messenger) if u wanna chat about this m screen name is Princ3ofatl
