I have just returned from a year of work, and have come back to start my degree, but only 1 month into it, I am finding it realli difficult to study and get my head down, I also have no motivation. The problems I used to cope with, I just can't be bothered to learn any more.

Any ideas on how I can try and improve the situation? Feel quite down about it now...

When I was in college this was a common problem. But most of the people with this problem were smoking a lot of dope or partying. If that is you -- time to stop.

If not, then it might be worth while talking to a psychologist (the school probably has one on staff) to see how you can adjust your attitude.

Good luck.

As always, the best answer to a question like this is to seek out the resources that your university/college provides for students. You are paying for these in your student fees, so you might as well take advantage of them!

Check to see if your school offers some kind of study skills workshop. These workshops offer a WEALTH of information that will give you great tips. Often, specialized workshops will be offered - on things like stress management or procrastination. Many places also offer one-on-one counselling to help identify the exact root of what you are struggling with and developing strategies to help you get back on track.

This is a very common thing among students, especially those that take some time off between high school and university. The important thing to remember is that you are not the only person in this situation!

first thing you have to understand and realize the importance of education and its impact in your life.

just like one of my favorite author (bob ong) said, you only get to study for about 2 decades, if you don't take it seriously you'll have to pay more than 5 decades of poverty, and hardships.

you have to study for your future (yourself, family and children). you don't want your future children live in a world of poverty coz you don't have a decent job coz you didn't finish studying. (although there are exeptions, where people who have no educational attainment becomes successfu)

you want to have something to be proud of.

you want your parents to have something they could be proud of. (seeing their child finish school and getting his diploma on stage.)

you know that there are unfortunate children who want to study but can't. they are deprived because of many things, like poverty. and you are fortunate enough to study, so don't waste the opportunity.

you know there are some people who regret because when they had the time, they didn't study. so know that you have it don't throw it away. you can't rewind the time.
what else? its numerous, really. you could be motivated by god, family, friends, yourself, girlfriend.

but the thing is don't stop studying. learn as much as you can throughout your life. you have to realize things as soon as possible. that's for your own good anyway. :)
