I was looking at Harvard, mainly because my grandfather attended business school at Harvard, and his brother attended medical achool. My grandfather has many Harvard friends still around and he has donated a large amount of money to Harvard under his name and continues to this day, and he even served on the Harvard admissions board. I am about to earn a 3.7 GPA and I am a sophmore in high school and I am involved in extracuriculars. But is a 3.7 GPA good enough for Harvard? I have always dreamed of going to Harvard and I will do almost anything to get into Havard,

I'm in my junior year right now, and I go to a nationally ranked high school in Maryland. I have taken tough courses, and my weighted GPA is around 4.5. My first SAT score was about 2000, but I hope to improve on that. I should have about 250 community service hours by the time college applications go out, and I'm also involved in a variety of extracurricular activities. I am also a member of a Math, Technology, and Science Academy. Could I get into Johns Hopkins, UVA, or Georgetown? All of these are top 25 schools, bear in mind I am from the Maryland/DC area. I am also Iranian, if that diversity helps at all...

I was accepted into both. I want to study liberal arts - not sure what I want to major in, though. Any advice? Also - I've never been to New York.

Where can I find a list of upenn professors? Preferably, I also want to find out what research they are currently involved in. I have tried the upenn site, but I cannot seem to find what I'm looking for.

I am an honors student in high school, I now have a GPA of 3.5, I participate in extracurricular activities, and I have a grandfather who attended Harvard and got his business degree there and his brother went to Harvard Medical School. My grandfather served on the Harvard admissions board while there, has many Harvard friends still around, and my grandfather has donated a large amount of money to Harvard under his name and continues to this day to donate money. He says he thinks he can help me get in, but still, I am nervous about it. I am not the valdictorian at my high school, where one kid in my class gets straight A+ in every class, but I do well.

In Egypt we care about the general grade, so we say that a person has passed with the grade of "Pass", "Good", "Very Good", or "Excellent". But we never talk about this GPA thing. Does anybody know how can I calculate my GPA?

People nowadays have become lazier and inefficient in using the library. They would rather go to internet cafes' or shops to access their work .Is it because of the time, space, policies to follow or have people become insensitive about books and more detached to real reading materials...HOw much are libraries reliable nowadays?

I hope to be accepted to a prestigious university such as Penn, John Hopkins, Columbia, or Stanford(my first choice). I studied abroad for a summer in France, worked for a year, been in french club and ski club for four years, played piano for 12 years, mentored kids for 2 years, volunteered at a hospital for a year, and accumulated plenty of other volunteer hours. I have a 4.0 unweighted gpa with all advanced classes. However, my counselor says the lack of leadership (ivy leagues want students who were the president of a club) could kill me in the admissions process. Is this true, do I still have a chance? Also, isn't a job and mentoring just like a leader? Please help me with this leadership thing, will it really kill me?

I'm a freshmen and I have all a's in 4/5 of my classes. However I only have a d+ in my english class (and dont say to study b/c I know the info perfectly. The teacher is crazy and the highest grade in the class is a c). We have a term paper due soon and i'm hoping I can do well on that and mabee boost my average somewhat. Should I drop the class? Is it going to ruin my gpa? What number is a d+ anyways (the last time I got a grade that low was around 5 years ago :x). Thanks
