I'm a freshmen and I have all a's in 4/5 of my classes. However I only have a d+ in my english class (and dont say to study b/c I know the info perfectly. The teacher is crazy and the highest grade in the class is a c). We have a term paper due soon and i'm hoping I can do well on that and mabee boost my average somewhat. Should I drop the class? Is it going to ruin my gpa? What number is a d+ anyways (the last time I got a grade that low was around 5 years ago :x). Thanks

Personally, I think you should stick it out and try to do the best you can. If that English class is a core class, then you are more than likely going to have to take it at some time because it will be a requirement. You have already suffered through part of it, might as well finish it up now. I know exactly what you mean by crazy profs! I am a junior in college and there are some crazy ones out there. Every prof is different, you just have to learn what you can and can't do for his/her class and how much effort is needed to pass each class. As far as dropping the class, I would stick it out. You've made it half way throught, might as well finish it up!!! Oh yeah, Its also better if you get good grades in the classes that deal with your major. I know you said you didn't have a major yet, but when you choose one, focus more on getting the good grades in those classes because that'll be more important! Good Luck!!! :D

1) drop the class - a D is going to seriously damage your GPA while a W won't effect your GPA at all. But only if you haven't missed the drop/add period yet. If you're past "last day to withdrawal with a W" then a WF is worse than a D

2) GPA point for a D is 1 a D+ might be a 1.5
here's the "what if"
4 three hour classes with an A and one with a D = 3.4 GPA
4 three hour classes with an A and one with a W = 4.0 GPA

3) your English teacher probably isn't crazy and the grade probably isn't his/her fault. To succeed in college through the whole four years, you're going to have to remove that external control idea and internalize it. You are the only one responsible for your education - period. If you don't like a professor or a class, then find another option. It's all on you and putting it on a professor will not solve anything.

If you're seriously worried drop the class if you still can. if you cannot drop the class because it's too late then do your best and repeat the class

best of luck

PS: yes, the teacher is some crazy prick.
