The University of Notre Dame is an excellent school to attend, but it depends on what your intended major is. For example, they do not offer an Education program--so check out their website first to see if they even offer what you are interested in. Their academic programs are highly competitive and the expectations are extremely high--if you are not interested in working hard, this may not be a good choice. Also, as a Catholic University, there are certain behavioral expectations that you are expected to abide by. This also means that the tuition is a lot because it is a private university--but they also offer a lot of private grants and scholarships in addition to your federal aide. As for sports.....they have/had many nationally recognized male sports (Football (past tense, but will return, GO IRISH), basketball, and hockey).

Even though I am firmly dedicated to Notre Dame, I am a graduate of Purdue University. This is a public institution in a small town in the middle of Indiana. They also have a well known football and basketball program. Academically, they are known for engineering and education. They also have one of the highest populations of Foreign students (if that makes any difference to you). I enjoyed my time at Purdue, but I did not live on campus because I was a graduate student. If you are an Indiana resident, the tuition is much more reasonable. ( I did my undergrad at Ohio State--also a great school!).

My suggestion is that you schedule a visit for both campuses and get a feel, take a tour and decide which one is best for you and your plans in the future.

GO IRISH!

If you are going to school where tradition is 1st, Notre Dame is your school, legendary football program, but they suck this year....There isn't really anything to do in South Bend, In. So the only social life you will have is from other students who attend the school.
Great school if you are just going to get an education, but you may die 1st of boredom before graduation comes around.

Both are great.

Both have good football teams.

Notre Dame is Catholic adminsitered, not sure about Purdue, but it has some religioius affilation.
