i bought a canon powershot sd600 last year because i just wanted something simple i could use to snap pictures. but now i am really starting to enjoy photography. however my camera still has very severe limitations because it's a subcompact. i've been reading photography books and want to upgrade to a camera that has more manual features that i can start using, but i don't want to go all the way up to a DSLR because i can't justify the cost.

what are some good cameras i could use as a stepping stone to better photography? i was looking at the canon powershot A series but i'm not sure if they are a big enough step up.

I am looking for a good digital camera to take when we go on our honeymoon. We are going on a cruise. I want it to be small, take real good pictures, (close up & far away), I want it to take action shots, clear shots, & good in daylight and night, & in night clubs and in light. Can anyone recommend a good camera that can get all of that and more?

I'm buying a Canon Rebel XTi body, but I need help choosing a lens.

I really don't understand all the differences!

I need a lens for shooting landscape/nature/portraits and one for action shots.

I'm taking a photography class in the Spring, but am buying my camera now. Can you explain the different TYPES of lenses, how/why they are used?

Nothing super pricey, I'm on a budget to stay under $1500.

Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Can someone tell me how to delete images with this camera. My wife was given the camera as a present but without the user manual. What makes life difficult, is that the in-built information is in Russian!

It was working fine a few weeks ago but 2 days ago when I went to use it, you could not view what you wanted to take a picture of. The battery is fairly new so it's not that. You can sort of half see images but it is too white and has some horizontal lines, seems to be the screen. Any ideas?

I can't make up my mind between these two cameras.

I'm leaning towards the Canon XTI just because of the self cleaning lens. Is this a real reason to lean towards the canon? Is that self cleaning lens really necesary?

Please let me know.

I want to take portrait pictures as well as outdoor landscape nature pictures.

Thanks,

Okay.. My father got my mother a digital camera for her birthday. My little sister borrowed it (which she isn't supposed to have in the 1st place). She accidentally sat on it while the lens was retracted. Now the lens is stuck. It won't retract or extend when turned on/off. The lens cover is barely opened. It will still take pics but they are blurry. It says: Try turning camera on/off again. For more info. go to www.hp.com and search the following error code: M537-001. I've tried everything and nothing works. There is nothing pertaining to the error code on the website. I can't afford to replace it and my sister is too young to buy a new one, lol. Help anyone?!

I've posted a question like this before, and still haven't bought a lens. I am serious this time.

This is going to be for general use. I'm not a professional photographer, but I do know how to take photographs. I feel like the portrait lens will work with the kind of pictures I take, but the 18-200mm lens has more range. I prefer the portrait lens' price, but I found a store that will sell me the 18-200mm for a reasonable price.

Legitimate answers only. Thanks.

I'm a total newbie at cameras. The only one I've ever had is a old film Canon that is like 20 years old. So I have no Idea how or when to use the different options on the new digitals. I want my camera to use for outdoor stuff so it needs to be tough. Not some little flimsy plastic thing that would break as soon as I sat on it. I'm joining the military so I need one that can take good photos in very bright dessert regions if you know what I mean. It needs to be able to fit in a pocket or a very small pouch. And needs a good zoom and video. It also needs to be under $250. Also whats the difference between optical and digital zoom? So if anyone has any ideas on any cameras that would fit or even just what requirements I should look for. Like how many mega pixels or what options I would need would be very helpful.

I started trying to reset the shutter, but I didn't know what the contacts were when I took out the old batteries. Could you tell me how to do it manually as well? Also, what kind of film should I get for this camera? Beside film, what else do I need to start shooting?

I own a Powershot A60, I love all the manual features it allows but I cannot take pictures with "depth of field". Do you know of a similar digital camera that would allow me to create this effect? Is there a way to know which cameras can do it?
