what does it mean when i try to turn on my camera and it says "card not initialized"

This means your memory card, SD or MS is not formatted. You might have an option in your camera that formats the card, check for format option in your camera.

Try formatting it, it may have data on the card that is not readable by your camera. This happens if the card was used for something else, MP3 player, video camera, other brand digital camera, etc. If possible, erase all data and images from the card, and that should do the trick. Good luck!
