The camera store a short walk from me charges 18 cents per 4'x6' print from a jpeg file. I basically want these photos to check print appearance before making my own 8 x10 s. Should I go that route or get the epson picturemate express, which is basically a mini-lab standalone that prints only 4"x6" but requires buying new paper, ink, and maintenance. I want the minimum number of hassles. Which of the two choices is the most cost & time effective?

optical zoom range. These are the ones i have in mind, Olympus Ultra zoom 7.1 mega sp55ouz, or canon powershot S3IS. the olmpus has a 18x zoom and the canon has a 12x zoom, but i have heard people say that sometimes a large zoom doesnt mean you will get a clear picture. i really love to take macro pictures also. The boys at the camera shop say canon has a better lens even in a point and shoot, so maybe less zoom in that instance is actually better. Thanks for the opinions, i did check dpreview but because i am a novice, i would prefer some expert advice.

I have a FinePix A-345 camera with an XD 128mb picture card. I've been transferring pictures via USB directly from the camera for months with no problems. A couple of months ago, I started using a card reader on occasion and ever since, I've been getting "bad spots" on the card and have lost numerous pictures and movies. A few days ago, I had a "card error" in the camera, and couldn't access anything on the camera, or even take new ones. I ended up reformatting the picture card using the camera, and all is well again.

I suspect the card reader might be the problem, but I can't find any real information on it, I only have the fact that since I started using the card reader the problems began. Could be coincidence, I guess. Fuji, of course, says I need to bring the camera in for hundreds of dollars in repairs. I doubt it.

Since I've reformatted, I fear the card reader.

Has anyone had this happen, or know if this is a known issue? Do cards "go bad" and need reformatting?

the 18-200mm VR is nice, but $750, haha, too much. please help. im going w/ a price under 400, preferibly under 300.

IM GOING ON VACATION, and i need a good lens to travel with. thus, i only want to bring ONE lens for this trip. i want to be able to take pictures of the cities at NIGHT, pictures of family, INSIDE museums, landscapes, and nature closeups (macro). sry if this is asking for much. im pretty ignorant when it comes to DSLR's and lenses. buying this NIKON D80 (decided over the canon digital rebel XTi (400D), is the first DSLR camera i've ever had, and i dont want the kit 18-55mm lens, unless thats my only choice. OHH, i think the 18-135mm is also a kit lens, is that a good choice?? but remember i want all those ABOVE qualities, esp NIGHT. ok, thx.

Why is the viewfinder darker and the image not as sharp when there is no battery inserted in the camera? Shouldn't light go through the mirror regardless if there is a battery or not? Is it the same for other Nikon cameras?

I'm wasting a question, but I want to thank Yahoo! and welcome back the members who were inadvertantly omitted from the leaderboard for a couple of weeks. It's nice to see that the tallies have been maintained correctly during your hiatus. You are all so important to the successful operation of this section - as is EVERYONE - and I am glad to see that the recognition due you has been restored.

It was nice to see who is close to the top, though. Bondoman01, Bob and Ara57 are right below the top ten and (hopefully) continuing to support the section.

All is well with the world, right?

Ok I have had plenty of digital cameras, and they will take video but wont zoom during the video. Before I start recording, it will zoom in and out, but not during the video recording. I just got a new digital camera and it does zoom during the recording but only digital zoom, and when i do the video gets blurry. Why wont it do optical zoom during a recording, and why does it get blurry with the digital zoom

I need a good lens for my Nikon D80 that is able to:
1. Take great actions shots.
2. Be able to take good action shot pictures without a huge flash outdoors and in poor or low light conditions.
3. Has to be able to take pictures from a fairly good distance away.
4. Has to be suitable for taking action shots of horses jumping and close ups of riders and horses.
I can't break the bank with this because the camera already cost so much. So I need a reasonably priced lens. Nothing super cheap but I cannot afford a $1,000 lens.

As in, you can take the picture and then look at it and delete it if you want right after you take it. Only you can throw it away when you're done.

I'm wondering because I'm going on a trip with my high school marching band and my mom is worried about sending me with the family's nice expensive digital camera, but I'm so spoiled with digital cameras that I don't think I could just have a plain disposable camera down there. Last time I had a disposable camera, they all turned out horrible because I forgot to turn the flash on. So really, I'll probably end up putting my thumb over every picture if I don't have a digital one.

Thanks!

What kind of features will we be seeing in the next generation of consumer cameras? Sensors, lenses, resolution, size, modes, whatever you can think of.

Sorry, if it's a dumb question)) I don't really speak English that well and have some troubles understanding some special words. AC adapter means that you basically just charge the camera(as you would do it with a cell phone) and then can use it till the power doesn't go down. Is that right? Or it allows you to power the camera only when it's actually plugged into the the electricity outlet?
H.e.l.p. ;))

which one should i get:

a) Canon 400D Digital Rebel XTi with 18-75mm lens
b) Sony alpha A100 with SAL 18200 18-200mm lens
c) NIkon D80 with 18-135mm lens
d) Nikon D80 with 28-105mm lens

The reason im putting only one lens down is because thats all i can afford at the moment. if u have any other suggestions for a lens to pair with one of the cameras, please tell. im going to italy, and want to be able to take landscape/architecture shots, nature shots, possibly close-up shots, and defintely people shots, AND low light places, like in museums w/o flash or at night or in a church, or more specifically the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. so, i know thats asking a lot, but please help. thx.
