What kind of features will we be seeing in the next generation of consumer cameras? Sensors, lenses, resolution, size, modes, whatever you can think of.

Several trends that have been going on since forever will continue:
* More optical zoom. The current leader with 18x optical zoom still isn't good enough for shooting passing satelites.
* More megapixels. 10 megapixels on a point & shoot with a $35 lens just ain't good enough.
* Better high ISO performance.
* More models with image stabilization.
* And patented face detection technology.
* For pets!
* Another 20 scene modes.
And perhaps some new features. Like...
* built-in IR/ blue tooth
* Built-in GPS for automatic geotagging
* Cameras that double as mp3 players, personal organizers, and espresso machines.
Long term improvements:
* Dynamic range
* Shutter lag with point & shoots
* More frames per second on cheap models

I'm not great at predicting the future, but I'd have to guess:

- better optical zoom
- lower prices for budget minded people
- more printing docks
- automatic CD slideshows
- low light and nightvision capable

Those are my guesses
