Sorry, if it's a dumb question)) I don't really speak English that well and have some troubles understanding some special words. AC adapter means that you basically just charge the camera(as you would do it with a cell phone) and then can use it till the power doesn't go down. Is that right? Or it allows you to power the camera only when it's actually plugged into the the electricity outlet?
H.e.l.p. ;))

if it's plugged in, you can use it as long as you want because that is the power outlet, it also charges it so you can use it without the power cord later

No the Ac adapter is a direct power supply to use the camera while in use it must be connected to the phone the batteries can be charged by this adapter but not while in use.~~

An AC adapter usually only allows you to power the camera through the mains electricity. It's not meant to be a battery charger (especially if the camera is turned on while connected or you are using rechargeable NiMH).
It's useful for when your battery power is low or dead and you need to power the camera for long periods of time...to look at photos, download them to your PC or view a slideshow on your TV etc. etc.

P.S. Your camera uses AA NiMH, so you need to buy rechargeables (2700mAh) and charger. Don't bother with an AC adapter.

You can use the AC adapter to charge your camera's batteries so that you can take pictures outside where there are no electrical outlets.

If your batteries are dead, you can use the AC adapter to power up the camera so you can take pictures.

an AC adapter allows you to charge DC powered thing with a house hold outlet. DC is direct current. an adapter changes AC- alternating current to DC. batteries are DC. house hold electrical is DC. to charge a battery you need to change the alternating currant to a direct currant, hense the adapter.this is its job.
