Why is the viewfinder darker and the image not as sharp when there is no battery inserted in the camera? Shouldn't light go through the mirror regardless if there is a battery or not? Is it the same for other Nikon cameras?

It is the same on other Nikon models. That's because there's a transparent LCD screen in the viewfinder that provides the focusing points and on-demand grid lines. When the camera is off, this screen becomes semi opaque.

I don't know why this happens but it is the same thing in every Nikon DSLR. When the battery is taken out, the viewfinder turns dark and feel like it is "noisy"

Don't worry, it's normal
