There isn't that much difference between an 6.1 and an 8.2, unless you plan on doing rather large poster work. You will be hard pressed to tell much difference on an 8x10 print weather it was taken with an 8.2 or a 10.1 and the quality of the printer will have all the more to do with it.

It is not just the Mp. You got to consider the sensor quality and lens. 6.1Mp on a DSLR can give you A4 size prints if you use a professional lens. On the other hand, a 6 Mp picture taken by a no-name, 6-in-1 device is only good for a 6x4inch print, if that.

1Mp, even with the best sensor and lens, will not give good photos above 6x4inch. Only good enough for some webshots.

I'm just agreeing with the answers above me, to give them a little strength. It's hard to pick out the difference between 8 MP and 10 MP, as long as they are both of the same camera type. Compare SLR to SLR and P&S to P&S, but not SLR to P&S. SLR wins every time.

The answers are very educative. But if you are only an amature, there is no difference in the MPs you have mentioned. It does make difference for the professionals who have to have enlagements like posters, etc.
