I'm doing a project for my computer class and I need some examples of microcomputers and their recent updates.

(And if you have time, the same question, but for Mainframe computers, and supercomputers)

Thank You =)

Howdy. I bought a usb/midi keyboard (ill be using usb) to use with my band. I just use it to play weird sounds, etc. in a live setting. If I want to patch my computer into my PA system (so I can be HEARD, haha) how would I do this with a X-fi Xtreme Music pci card? Would I do this:
1) plug usb/midi into comp
2)plug instrument cable (w/ attached 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor) into line/out of X-fi card
3) plug other end of instrument cable into PA System's mixer

????

Wanna make sure that would be ok. I know it would work...but is there a better alternative? Or do i need a "buffer" or something? I dont want to fry/break anything on my computer.

I am trying to establish the power cost to store information inside regular PC RAM. My goal is to estimate the power cost to read/manipulate a SPAM message considering RAM power consuming cost.

When I try to turn my computer on it actually does turn on but there is no beep, which I think would indicate that it is booting. The computer sounds like it is on, but the screen is blank and nothing is happening... So basically, I press the power and my computer sounds like its on, but it will not beep. The screen just stays blank with the sound of the computer running.. Before, I had to keep unplugging and plugging the computer in order for it to beep and boot up. Now, it won't work at all no matter how many times i unplug and plug my computer in.. I tried a different power supply but that did not do anything. I am thinking it may be an issue with either the processor or the motherboard? Please help someone!

Do computer headset electret microphones (that get their power from the sound card) have any components inside the assembly beside the electret capsule?
-
In particular I am wondering if a resistor and capacitor are part of the assembly or does the sound card supply them.

Thank-you

This PC is not a tower-type, but it is called somthing else-I think a desktop. But aren't all PCs(IBM compatable) refered to as desktops. It is a HP Vectra vl420 PC VT and it looks like this:

Something really seems not right here. I just bought those speakers right? but the bass is too strong! even if i adjust the subwoofer knob all the way down, it's still too much. I have to go to media player's equalizer settings and pull all the left sliders down just to get the bass to a tolerable level! But that only works for media player, how about when i'm playing games? or listening via internet?
This can't be right now can it?

Does anyone know if this is a normal thing? if not, then how can i solve the problem?

BTW i know the bass adjustment knob isn't loose or anything because when i try to turn it all the way to it's loudest, boy oh boy do the windows rattle in here.

And why have they changed over the last 7 years? I'm wondering, because I have a 1.5GHZ Compaq Deskpro
running Windows 98SE with 256MB PC800 RIMMBUS(?).
It's the maximum amount of RAM that the system will hold
(I have no idea why).

I go do that, but whats next. I am really confused. Help!
