Howdy. I bought a usb/midi keyboard (ill be using usb) to use with my band. I just use it to play weird sounds, etc. in a live setting. If I want to patch my computer into my PA system (so I can be HEARD, haha) how would I do this with a X-fi Xtreme Music pci card? Would I do this:
1) plug usb/midi into comp
2)plug instrument cable (w/ attached 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor) into line/out of X-fi card
3) plug other end of instrument cable into PA System's mixer

????

Wanna make sure that would be ok. I know it would work...but is there a better alternative? Or do i need a "buffer" or something? I dont want to fry/break anything on my computer.

Your steps are correct.

1. Plug in your keyboard to computer.

2. I would advise that you use an 1/8" male stereo to dual 1/4" stereo cable. Not adapters. A 1/4" cable with 1/8" adapter will put a lot of strain on the connectors of your sound card. It's not very stable, and if it gets bumped or hit it could easily bend and snap. Not good. Make sure you've got lot's of slack. You could get yourself an 1/8" male stereo to RCA female stereo adapter, plug that into RCA male to RCA male cable. Your PA system might have RCA inputs, (tape inputs) and this would free up some mic channels on the board/mixer.

One thing to keep in mind is that there may be 'latency' due to the time it takes to get an input from the keyboard, to the computer, processed through software and played backed through the sound card.

Let me know if you need more help.
