My friend's Dad has an old P3 Computer. Its 20GB HDD has crashed completely. Now he asks me if he buys a new hard disk that would be at least 40GB or greater as lower than that is not available in market, so, would that old machine support 40GB or more? Well I'm not sure. Could you suggest?

I have an old laptop which i want to run linux on(becasue windows got corrupted and Linux is faster) but when I access the hard drive in linux it comes up with an error. I tryed to erase, partition and format the hard drive with gparted but it says the HD is protected. Is this because the HD will only work with Window's which I had previously installed and is there any way to fix it.

My pc died and my hard drive was taken out and put into a new box. Everything works fine except I now have no sound - why? Where is the sound card stored, is it in the hard drive or is it in the actual box? I am totally pc ignorant.......

only c drive is their while checking from device manager it listed two unknown hard hard disk drive and it mention their size . it happens only after i install BOOT MAGIC .

Programs like taskmgr.exe and svchost.exe are taking up most of the processor.
I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 running Windows XP SP2 with the latest windows updates, latest BIOS updates etc. It has a 3.06 processor with 512mb of memory. I run Spybot regularly and AVG (virus scan) also. I ran msconfig.exe and removed any non essential startup programs. I mostly just use IE 7.0. Do you know this is happening?

I have an HP Pavillion Brio, its a nice computer. Windows XP...But i am having a bad problem with it freezing every 2 seconds for minutes at a time and it makes a terrible noise as well if the speakers are on. I have tried every way in the world to fix it but nothing works. can someone please help me.

If you're a computer geek (like I), you should know what am i talking about. Otherwise, a jumper is that tiny black ring you should see on your computer's hard drive. w/o it the desktop can't know what is the main drive and what is the secondary drive.

back to the question. Where can I go (online or at a store) to buy hard drive jumpers? other than Fry's electronics

Ok, my stepdad has a Dell Inspiron 5160 with a 3.2 Ghz P4 in it. Needless to say it runs very hot. However, it remains uncleaned and it sounds like it's heater rather than a computer mostly.

Well, my mom was using it, and she said it suddenly froze, the computer screen flashed white, then red, then blue then green and kept doing this until she shut it off. When she turned it back on, there were blue lines and some other stuff she had trouble explaining. Now when she turns it on, instead of showing the Windows XP loading screen, it just goes black.

What do you think happened? I sincerely think something could have burned out.
