I just bought and installed a new Maxtor SATA hard drive in my G5 Mac, and it worked fine for 10 days, then froze my computer suddenly and started clicking. Any reason the HD would fail this quickly? And how long after it starts clicking is the data unrecoverable? Finally, do I have to send it to a drive recovery company to recover the data, or is there a way I can do it myself if I can't mount the drive from the OS?

I can select from a 500gb (7200rpm) serial ata hard drive with 8mb databurst cache or a 500gb (2 x 250gb 7200rpm) serial ata raid 0 stripte with databurst cache. Same price but does one have an advantage. Not sure what all the terms mean. Thanks in advance.

I bought a USB enclosure for my extra HDD. When I connect it to my Toshiba laptop, it picks everything up. I can see it in the device manager: The USB Mass Storage Device, and the HDD at the disk drive's tab. When I check these, it tells me that the device is working fine. But I still cant see the HDD on the My Computer Screen. What am I doing wrong? Windows XP, USB 2.0.

I've reloaded everything onto a larger hard drive and the old one won't format. I tried 3 times. What would you say I should try next. I can't decide between an axe and a very large hammer.

I'm trying to upgrade the memory on my kid's computer. Its a Gateway, about 4 years old - don't know the exact model; can't find the documentation.

It has 2 memory slots and 1 memory module which says the following on it:

128Mb, DDR, 333, CL2.5, PC2700v

I know what the 128mb and DDR mean. My questions are:

1. What does the "CL2.5" mean?

2. Will the machine take a 512mb, 256mb, or 1gb module? (or 2 of each?)

Thanks - any general memory info you can give me that will help me buy the right module would be much appreciated!

Currently, I have 1 GB of RAM, and I find that crap worthy. I have 2 old 256 MB RAM sticks laying around. Can I just install those 2 and have 1.5 GB of RAM? Will It work? Will It make my PC better? I just made a custom gaming computer that slows down every once and a while, and I want to know whether the extra rAM will work or not.

If anyone asks:

-specs-

Intel Pentium D processor
x2 ATI Radeon 256 MB x1300 (CrossFire config.)
Antec 500w PSU
DVD x12 speed
CD x16 speed
Blu-Ray x2 speed (hurrah!)
1.2 TB storage memory
Sony TV Tuner card
