Someone said to put it into the dishwasher and and just run the cycle.
Does this sound right or was some one kidding me.

I have heard that before but I personally wouldn't stick it in the dishwasher. Just make sure it's unplugged or the computer is off then use a can of air to blow off excess dust in hard to reach places then use a Q-tip or damp wash cloth to clean any dirty spots.

Trust me, the dishwasher is not an option to cleaning electronic parts lol. You can carefully use Isopropal Alcohol and q-tips. Each key can be popped off with a butter knife, with a few exceptions like the "spacebar" and "enter" keys. They are held on by wire clips and must be removed carefully. You will NOT need to break the keyboard down any further than that as you cause problems on the electronic board inside, which rarely get dirty anyway. Larry RadioShack 01-9590

Yes here is what I found on dishwasher cleaning

Water method - I have used the dishwasher solution many times, both on keyboards from friends and family, as well as customers. This is trivial, but I always rinse the keyboard with copious amounts of distilled water prior to drying at least 72+ hours. Depending on your water supply, many minerals exist that may cause electrical problems. To me, it's better safe than sorry, especially if you have an expensive multi-media keyboard, even though a new one doesn't cost much anyway.

Not something I would try.If this is a standard keyboard then the keys can be removed one at a time. You can buy a small PC vacuum most any ware they sell PC.Have you checked your tower for dust over the CPU? Dust can shorten a PCs life due to heat build up.

I sure wouldn't do that!

Use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum. I have taken mine and turned it upside down and tapped on the bottom of it and you get crumbs and crap falling out. Kinda gross.

With the computer turned off, you could take a rag and moisten it a little with Windex or something and wipe off the keys that way. Don't spray it right on the keyboard tho...

NNOOOO! A q-tip will do the trick, might take a bit of time but dishwasher = bad day for keyboard.

dont do it !! get a soft cleaning brush, you can find them at wal-mart or any store that has cleaning supplies. spray it with a little spray cleaner and go over the keys---AFTER YOU HAVE UNPLUGGED IT FROM YOUR TOWER--then put a little 409 on a soft cloth and go over the entire keyboard. if it is very dirty it may take a few times but this should clean it up.then wait till it is dry to re-connect.

That was a joke! OMG, who would be stupid enough to say that?! LOL! Just dust it off and wipe it down with a damp paper towel. Thats what I do! Dont get water in the keyboard because its an electrical device!!!

they were definately trying to prank you. Just go to most any store and get a can of compressed air. This easily cleans out all the spaces between the keys.

or just you a feather or any other type of duster
