It has been like this since new, its only 3 years old and the fan is that loud we have to turn the computer off if we are going to watch a movie, do I need a new one or can I fix it somehow?

one reason why your computer fan is so loud is because your cpu is not receiving adequate cooling. Is your cpu under your desk where air is allowed to move, or is it in a closed cabinet? One solution is to move it to an area where air can move freely. Another solution is opening your cpu case and spray the inside with compressed air. That will blow out any dust in the fan. If it's still really loud, you may need to buy a new fan due to faulty bearings.

Fans are not fixable. It sounds like you got one with a bad bearing. They're generally not that loud.
Get the biggest one you can fit in the cutout when you get a new one. The larger the fan the slower it has to run to move the same amount of air. The slower it runs the quieter it is.
