I've reloaded everything onto a larger hard drive and the old one won't format. I tried 3 times. What would you say I should try next. I can't decide between an axe and a very large hammer.

Is the drive you are trying to format still the 'boot' disk?

You need to be booting on the new drive before you can format the 'old' disc.

when you format it are you listing the drive letter it is under? Also, do you have the second hard drive set to be slave? Both these have got to be right. Good luck!

Here are some sites explaining it.

Low level format. If you do not have the means or want to try something else, repartition.

Then try a format. You should also try running your HDD manufacturer's disk diagnostic utility found on their site.

check out the drives website-most manufactures have a free utility to download and do this, otherwise you can force a format on it by using Windows...go to disk management, then on right hand side you should see that drive..right click it, select either assign drive letter, or format, etc...(various options).

The axe, oh please the axe (and some photos too)!!!....

But seriously, it depends on the error displayed. It just stop? Probabaly your hard drive is in heaven. But when it happened to me, was over heated drive + bad CD (installing Windows).

Good luck!,

Sounds as if you have your OS on your older HD and your data on the new one. If you, you can't reformat while you are using the older HD. You should either leave your config as is, or, if you want to remove the old HD, copy the data back to the old HD, then use a software package like Symantec Ghost to copy ALL the data (OS and your copied data) to the new HD.
