I bought a USB enclosure for my extra HDD. When I connect it to my Toshiba laptop, it picks everything up. I can see it in the device manager: The USB Mass Storage Device, and the HDD at the disk drive's tab. When I check these, it tells me that the device is working fine. But I still cant see the HDD on the My Computer Screen. What am I doing wrong? Windows XP, USB 2.0.

I can see it on the disk management part of the manage option of my computer. How do I assign a letter to it? It is still unformatted.

Right click on my computer --> click on manage and then go to disk management.

From there tell me what you see with regards to the external USB 2 attached hard drive, does it show up in there, if so what does it say regarding the hard drive , does it have a filing system or anything or what ?

It may just be a case of having to assign a drive letter to it.

Thanks

An external drive does not show on your screen , you will find it in "My Computer" which is on your screen, once you have found it there, you can right click on it and send a"shortcut" to your desktop, screen. Once there you could always change the icon for another more colourfull if you want.

# re-install the hardware. Control Panel > Add New Hardware
# Contact the manufacturer
# Go to PC world and see what they say or can do.
