I had put the drivers CD in. It was testing the graphics and then all of a sudden the monitor shut off and now I can't get the computer to come back up, and I can't get the CD out. The monitor works on my other computer. What happened?

When I put any disk into it, the disk spins, the orange light goes on for about a minute then it goes off but nothing happens.

And just now when I checked, the drives have changed names.

My cd and dvd drives used to be E: and F:
But now they are D: and E:

Recently when I rebooted, the pc asked me to select from an empty drop down list which drive was my dvd burner.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Last night, I was on the internet, and all of a sudden, the computer restarted on its own. I don't think it was a power flick, because the TV was on as well, and it didn't even flicker, plus the VCR stayed running as well. I also got the screen on startup saying the computer did not shut down correctly and is scanning the hard disk for errors. I think it may be a hardware issue, as something of this nature has happened before, but not in a while. Any help?

I have a HP Pavilion Computer.

I have cable TV and also as satellite so I need two tuners to operate both of them.

Can I buy one without the FM radio feature? Or should I buy the same card that I already have in my computer (not sure which one I have yet, I have not looked).

And how does the 2nd tuner interact with Media Center? Or in other words how do you tell Media Center wich tuner to use? Or is it automatic?

Is it easy to install? Can I do it myself?

Neither item has a transformer, just a plug for which I can get a 3 prong adapter easily. To get a proper power converter is expensive. Also, cos of the PAL/NTSC conflict will a Japanese DVD player work in the UK anyway? I know already that it plays UK DVDs.

Hey everyone,

My brother's fiance told me about this place, so I thought I'd try it out. I feel embarassed that I'm a tech geek who doesn't have all his files backed up, except some code backed up on a small USB flash drive.

Can you guys offer advice for what kind of a hard drive I should look for? The only brands I've heard good things about are Seagate and Maxtor. What should I look for when buying one and what's just useless fluff? I'm thinking that a external USB 2.0 would be best.

Also, any site where I can get a good deal? Or should I just browse pricewatch, fatwallet, pricegrabber, and newegg? I'm looking to spend $100 or less. I'd like at least 40 GB so that I can use it for many years to come, but I don't think I'll need 100s of GB or anything like that; I'd rather spend the extra cash on speed and reliability.

If you guys use any free backup software (or cheap software that's really good), recommendations would be appreciated there.

Thanks,

Elton

Everyone has been telling me that AMD processors are better than Intel's, however all the AMD one's I've been looking at (Namely the FX) are slower than Intel's. So like uh...what's the deal. I just use my computer for games, and I heard the FX was the one to get but its slower than the Intel's processors (I have a Intel Dual Core 3.2GHz, the fastest FX I've found is 2.8 GHz) so I need someone (or alot of people) to set the record strait. Oh...and when comparing processors, use the same level (for instance, compare a AMD dual core to a Intel Dual core or a 64 bit processor to a 64 bit processor.)

I ask this because only when the surger protector is on does the green LED light labeled "Protected" come on. If it's not turned on, does that mean the appliances attached to the surger protector aren't properly protected even if they're turned off?

I got a new usb external hard drive but when I use windows to format the disk, I tried to create both primary E and F drives at the same time. Now none of the partition was formatted properly and my PC can no longer detect the drive, what can I do? Did I destroy the disk already?
