The conversions on the post using 1024 are correct, as computers do use a binary system rather than a base 10 system.

As for what a Megabyte can mean - Megabyte (MB) is a term for a certain size, sometimes it is used to describe Storage, also known as hard drive capacity. To use 1 MB of your hard drive is the same is using 1024 KB of your hard drive space, commonly referred to as Storage.

MB is also used to designate the amount of Memory a computer has or uses. The most common form of Memory, RAM (Random Access Memory) is on chips that you can install, remove, and upgrade inside of your computer case on the computer's Motherboard. The more Memory your system has, the faster it can work with information. RAM is often listed in MB, such as 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1024 MB (or 1 GB), etc.

You computer also has ROM (Read Only Memory) that is sautered onto the motherboard of your computer. This contains information that allows your computer to boot by telling it where to look for Windows, what devices you have on your system, etc.

A 3rd type of Memory on a computer is called Cache (pronounced Cash). By definition, a Cache of anything is a small store of an item. In the case of Video, audio, and optical devices, etc. on-bard cache is another form of memory that is available for the use of device it is attached to, allowing it to run better without having to use as much of the RAM on your system.

I thought it was like this:

1024 bytes=1 kilobyte
1024 kilobytes=1 megabyte
1024 megabytes=1 gigabyte
1024 gigabytes=1 terabyte

since its binary (hardrive manufatures use 1000 instead of 1024 and thats why an 80Gb hardrive is actualy 74 GB of usable space)
