you will need to install the sound drivers again. If you don't have the disk you might be able to find them online.

First, check that the volume is up
If that is not the problem then go into the control panel
Click on the System icon
Go into the Hardware tab
Click on Device Manager
Find the list for the Sound devices and click the little + on front of it
Find your sound card, right click on it and uninstall it
Reboot the PC and it should reinstall in the sound
If does not work after that you will need to go the the website of the maker of your sound card and download the driver for the card. Follow the instructions at the website to install the driver

Just check whether your driver for sound card is installed properly. If so, the volume control icon will appear in the system tray of task bar(right end). If not install the sound driver

A good tip for identifying what drivers you need if you have no information is to look at the chips on the motherboard and they usually supply the information you need

Re-install the soundcard drivers. or if you have an on-board sound card, you'll find the drivers on the motherboard driver disk.

i presume you mean you have re-installed your operating system, your sound card is not included on the windows disc so you need to install the drivers
if you have a sound card driver ,install this, but if you havent look at the name of your card, take it out and physically inspect it,and then look on the web for the drivers
the main sound card manufacturers are creative(http://www.creative.com/),and they have legacy drivers for older products
if you have no luck there try http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/,as they have a larger selection
good luck
