Laptops & Notebooks - March 2007

I have a 60gb harddrive partitioned into C and D. The D drive only has 5% freespace and is critically fragmented. It will not let me defrag it because there is not enough space to run the defragger. It has never been defraged before. I have a compaq Presario v5305WM notebook. I got it in December 06'. I cannot even run system recovery. what do I do to free space on the drive? and defrag it?

I have two questions regarding this machine and its hard drive:

#1. Can the harddrive from one unit be removed and installed in another R3000 serious laptop successfully? ... providiing that the proper drivers and can be installed for the hardware.

#2. How can I convert a harddrive into an external harddrive. (Can the harddrive be installed into a small case that allows you to hook it up to other computers via a USB port.?

I presently have a r3000 with a blown motherboard, and I will be purchasing another r3000, (slightly faster, and different CPU/ Ram) to replace it. Thanks for the help :)

I'm trying to play a DVD that's under copy protection on my Gateway directly from the disc but I'm running into problems. It'll play the movie but it's very jumpy/scratchy. Is there a way I can get my movies to play smoothly coming directly from the disc instead of decrypting the movie to my hard drive?

I primarily need a notebook...

... for intensive applications (Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium, Dreamweaver, FrontPage, etc.)
... to store music, photos and videos (also, video editing)
... to play games
... to connect to networks (wired/wireless)

The notebook should have

... Lots of hard drive space for storing personal, business and multimedia files
... DVD burner
... plenty of memory (1 GB +) to run multiple intensive applications
... If possible, dedicated video memory - for video editing
... S-Video output for connection to a TV
... IEEE1394 (FireWire) so I can connect my camcorder
... Card reader so I can download photos from my camera
... Ethernet/wireless so I can connect to networks

Price: as cheap as possible

I am using an iBook laptop and just spent the whole day downloading 10 gigabites off the internet (2 gigabites at a time, 30 minutes each) and then installing all of it unto my hardrive which has 20 gigs of free space. Is this a bad move?

I have an HP Pavillion zd7000 (3 years old), and it works fine for me. I just have a problem with it's 60GB hard drive (need more storage). I don't want to go external because I like to take all my files with me (I use them frequently, and when I'm away from my desk). I digress. I am a new mac user, just got my Mac G3 laptop on ebay. I love it, except that when i am on the internet, and i type something into the search bar on yahoo or google, it keeps whatever i typed in stored. even after i clear the internet browsing history, if i go back to the search engine and type in a letter, it shows a dropdown menu of everything that i have ever typed in starting with that letter.
So my question is how do i disable this feature? It is anoying, but i don't know anything about macs or how to change that setting. I am running OSX 10.3.9.

what kind of laptop should i get? I will need internet access on this. It will mostly be used for videos, music, and internet access. Gaming isn't too big of a deal. Maybe Rollercoaster tycoon or the sims occasionally, but nothing more. any ideas? thx

Please help, my laptop screen is extremely dim, it was working yesterday but this morning it's not, normally once i come back to it and move the curser it will brighten the screen, what's happening i've tried going through brightness setting etc but it's not doing anything, troubleshooting not helping either even tried restarting laptop ... please help it's only a few months old??
