How do I upgrade my RAM and DVD drive?

Both are fairly simple to do...

Installing (or upgrading) a dvd drive usually involves opening up the case, unscrewing the old CD or DVD if one exists, and installing the new one in it's place. Windows usually will prompt for the drivers when it is rebooted. (The manual that came with the DVD should give better info.)

Upgrading RAM is also easy, but you must endure you get the proper modules and that you're not increasing the RAM amount beyond the motherboard specifications. For desktops, it's usually a "stick" of memory. Push out the tabs on the end of the motherboard RAM holder, pull out the stick, and then snap in the new module. Most computers will automatically recognise the new RAM.

BE SURE TO BE GROUNDED when working inside the computer.

RAM is easy - but you must order the correct type. That info can be found in your book or Google your brand and model #.
Most newer computers use DDR memory. Be aware that if you do not match your RAM modules - they could not work. TigerDirect is a good place to shop on line or NewEgg.

If you want to upgrade your DVD drive - it is your choice - as to what you want - a DVD burner - dual layer, etc. They are fairly easy to install - again shop the above mentioned places.

Go to your computer's manufacturer's website and find your PC. Find out what kind of RAM it takes (DDR, DDR2, 168-pin, 667MHz, etc.) and buy RAM of that type. If you have room for another disk drive, you can purchase a DVD drive and using a connector inside the PC you should be able to hook up the drive fairly easily following the installation directions if you're doing this yourself.
