I used to work for HP back before they were bought out by Compaq who now have completely moved to China. You couldn't give me either one of those pieces of junk! The last year that I worked for HP, just after the sell out that had Dave rolling over and Bill jumping around, our department received 16 brand new High Priced professional workstations. Only 8 of them fired up out of the boxes and only 3 of them actually ran.
Get an Apple.

a few weeks ago i bought the 6000 from circuit city and it was making a loud high-pitched noise and crashed about 6 times the first night i set it up. it also froze when i stuck a dvd in and started playing it, and then i couldnt get the drive to open up...i returned that and got another 6000 with some different specs straight from hp. it made the same noise. hp said theyve never heard of this before, but said it's probably a defective hard drive...if thats the case,i do not want an hp if ive had 2 in a row with the problem, and i returned them both. i'm now looking into toshiba and sony...the only good thing is that i had no problem with my returns from hp but it was a pain, i waited 3 weeks to get the 2nd one from them and it made that same horrible noise. i'd be real cautious cuz it seems like theyre loaded with problems

I would prefer a Dell or Toshiba but If you have to choose between the two, i would go with the dv9000t. The 9000 series has a larger screen (17.1" vs 15.4" for the 6000) and it offers better upgrade options. Whatever model you choose make sure it has a "t" after the model number : For ex dv9000t because it means that this laptop use an intel processor. Models with a "z" use AMD processor and it's can't compete with the intel core 2 duo.

I have the DV 9000, which I am currently backing up as I'm having all sorts of problems with it. I recently wrote my nightmare out in response to someone trying to decide between HP and Dell.
I will post that for you to read, but PLEASE learn from my nightmare and don't get an HP. I am convinced they are incapable of making or servicing computers. I realized I left out an exchange from this story...simply amazing. But then again look at what one of their own employee's said. They look great but you will spend half your life dealing with problems...here was my loong post;
OMG....RUN and I mean RUN away from HP or Compaq. Please if anyone has ever listened to any advice I have ever given on anything, now is the time. If you decide to roll the dice and try them I hope you or your parents are good at speaking with customer service, making a stink, dealing with supervisors, and have lots of time to spend shipping via FedEx.
I'll try to give you the rundown of where my fondness for their quality products lies (excuse me while I rip my tongue from my cheek). About 2 years ago I desperately needed a laptop for work. I did a fair amount of homework and decided on either a Toshiba or Dell. The ones I liked were really expensive and right around then I had a big unexpected bill. But I was at one of the warehouse stores and found a great deal on a decent Compaq, for what it had.
To sum it all up, that one never worked the store exchanged it. The exchange died so I had to ship back, HP repaired and it totally died. They upgraded me to a top of the line HP. The power kept going out until it died. They fixed it until it died. They changed the mother board and mailed it back and it would not boot up out of the box. They sent me a new one, which I've now had about 2 months and the power keeps going out on it. They want me to send it back again, and I'm going to have to. I've never had this many problems with anything ever. And look how many different ones, so it shows I just didn't get one bad one.
RUN AWAY FROM HP! Shop the sales...Dell has some good reasonably priced ones and makes a much better product And they keep having great sales lately. I am still kicking myself for not waiting and getting a Dell (or other brand). You might want to check local stores to see what is on clearance since it sounds like you don't need the top of the line. A lot of times stores will mark down ones that are a little older, slower, but they are still very good.
Good luck with it!
PS I agree in theory that a computer is only as good as it's componants, BUT when one company can't seem to make a good one, and their repair dept can't repair them, and I have literally their top of the line (HP Pavilion DV9000T) and it keeps having problems, I say avoid that company. I plan to anytime I buy any more puters!

"...it ons yet would not arise atimes..." sounds like your asserting its not booting? Which kind do you certainly have? Your question identify is purely too extensive. in case you have the working equipment cd-rom boot from it and use the fix selection. in case you have a equipment fix cd-rom it rather is nice to to place your laptop back to the state of the equipment fix disk. or you are able to bypass into the structures upload-ons and use the "fix" to set your latop back to a date until now it began giving you hassle.
