Assuming that it opens without error, you need to consider a few things:

1) What other programs do you have open (Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager) and make sure there are not programs running in the background that you are not aware of.

2) Scan for viruses, trojans, etc. These often cause a system to slow down.

3) Regular Defrags will help your system operate more efficiently. Remember that your system cannot defragment open/running programs, so minimize your activities and do a defrag. If it has been a while since you have run one, run 2-3 within a day or two, to get your system in good order.

4) If you have a lot of customized toolbars, etc., this also slows WORD starting, but enables you to do things faster once it is up.

You could try to defrag your computer. You should do that about once a month. It speeds up the accessing of programs.

do you have a lot of things opened at once? even high speed computers can only do so much simultaneously.
