Laptops & Notebooks - March 2007

Hello, in a few days time i'm going to buy a new notebook computer from www.dell.com.au and i was thinking of getting either an Inspiron 1501, Inspiron 6400 or a Inspiron 640m Notebook. I'm willing to spend as much as $1950 Australian dollars on a notebook computer which i'm going to use mainly for 3D Studio Max, Maya, gaming (Warcraft III & WoW) as well as basic software such as Word, Excel and the odd days browsing the Internet etc.

I'm not sure if i should go with the Inspiron 1501 that has an AMD Turion TL-56 (1.60GHz) processor, 2GB of Ram, 256MB of integrated graphics, 120GB HDD, Large Nylon Case and 9-cell battery (main features). Or whether i should opt with the Inspiron 6400/640M that has the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor running @ 1.60GHz, 1GB of Ram, 256MB ATI graphics, 120GB HDD, 9-cell battery, 120GB HDD and Large Nylon Case for the main features.

I don't mind Vista or XP, not that it makes a difference in the price tag. Thanks, help will be much appreciated.

How do I figure what the exact part number is for a replacement motherboard in my Compaq Presario R3000

It has an Athlon processor (1.8Ghz) 256mb RAM and the various numbers on the bottom of the unit are as follows:

2CA5010 PMM
DP 533AVR
MFG# 2CA5010PMM
2000412600001
DP533AV
model: PP2210

What will be the part number for the motherboard?? I have limited access to the net right now, and can't find it. Thanks for any help.

I want to upgrade my RAM and I was wondering if there was a site where i can look up the type kind of memory I have in a my laptop, it's a gateway 520hx. I was wondering if I could swap out the 512Mb with 1Gb, essentially having 2x 1Gb memory instead of 2x 512Mb. Thanks!

It's taken 7&1/2 hours and 21 cd-r s so far and my new HP Pavillion dv6000 Special Edition still hasn't finished backing itself up. I haven't added any new files; it's only two days out of the box.
Is this normal?
How much longer & how many more cd-r s is this going to take?
Do I even really Need a backup?

Is there a difference between a Compact laptop and a HP labtop? I have heard that the Compact is just cheaper on the wallet and the HP has more problems but both coming from a Compact laptop owner. So, is there any other differences, does anyone know? Just asking.
