Laptops & Notebooks - March 2007

I have a Toshiba true brite screen so it's glossy and gets a lot of dust and finger marks. Im talking a lot! And then when I try to clean it (very gently) with windex and a paper towel it just makes horrible streaks. Or if it does work, the dust just comes back in like a minute or two. HELP!!!

IM thinking of gettin a lap top.
If I get a mac, it will be a mac book upgraded to:
Intel Core Duo proccesor
2GB RAM
2GHZ
80Gb hard drive.
$1,500

I dont know where I can get a PC laptop for that price.

What are the pros and cons of macs and pc

Hi, this seems to be a recurring problem that was there on my old pc and now on my new laptop. I had problems with my old pc with this process causing it to freeze, obviusly because the processor was running at 100%. If I right clicked on the process and ended the process tree my cpu would drop from100% to 0%. No amont of virus or spyware scans would solve the problem. The pc would run ok after ending the process tree until I went on the internet and was back again.

I now have a new laptop approximately 6 weeks old and have the problem again. Whe I first boot up its ok then after 3 or 4 minutes it will freeze caused by the svchost. I end the process and it's ok.

Please note that I don't look at any porn on the laptop and only ever use it on yahoo, ebay, comet, currys etc. My firewall is always switched on and anti virus is always running.

Its not just svchost that causes this, just found another process called epower.

Anyone got any ideas what causes this and why.

bought refurbished with a fresh XP load - removed the cd and inserted the dell floppy drive module after reading it for what seems like 5 minutes it asks to format it. i don't want to format it, i want to open it with photoshop but it won't let me. can anyone tell me why? i am using a memory card inside a floppy disk adaptor from my Sony Mavica FD-95 digital camera. worked fine on old, old, computer. can anyone help?

It used to be bright. Now it turned dim and when I unplug the power cable it gets bright again. Is there a setting to fix this to adjust the brightness?

someone broke intro my house and stole my apple macbook. i dont have the current IP address so i cant track it with that but is there any other way to track it. is there a way to track it for the people who werent prepared to have it stolen from their house? appreciate any help.

hey yeh i was going to get the alienware mALX laptop i think it is, yeh it is the most expensive, but i am not worried about the costs. Is there any good laptop which has an english site that you can buy laptops on because i think cyberware and some hyper laptop or something was on US.
Apart from the cost is alienware one of the best????
Im looking for a GOOD LOOKING laptop, which can be used for GAMING, aswell as being suitable ofr work. Please suggest notebooks- not home computers. I looked at VodooPC, Cyberpower(i think its called that), and through Dell.

i just bought a hp lappy.... and it has been working ok for about 6 months now...anyway i had my lappy charging and i took off the charger chord and my lappy just turned off and then it did the same thing over and over every time i would take it off the switch....does anyone know what is wrong??? Hi, we have our laptop SONY VAIO PCG-FR315S for 3 years, constantly having problems with it. The best solution we find is to reinstall system from recovery disc. After the last reinstallation and updating with service pack 2 we can't use any hardware via usb (apart from mouse). The computer detects the hardware but can't run with it; updating drivers doesn't help; device manager still shows yellow exlamation mark. Could you help us? We don't want to reinstall system again to get drivers work properly.

I have tried searching for a driver that will work with Vista and have come up with nothing. My laptop is a toshiba p35-s605. When i had XP i checked to see if my comp was ok for vista and it said my video card would work but recomended that i update it. Since then i have had vista installed and would like to go back to XP untill more of the bugs are worked out. I have the XP software but cannot load it because my cd drive doesnt work. I cant find a driver to download to be able to read a disk. Anyone have any help? I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-831S ATA

Are there any cell phones that can be used directly with a notebook and PCMCIA modem to dial into the internet? I know there are a ton of phone that can connect to a PC, which the phone companies additional charge for internet. That's not what I'm asking for. I'm asking about a phone that can be used like a regular phone line, a modem, and a notebook to dial into the internet using my existing service. Are there phones that can be linked to a PCMCIA card that allow the notebook to dial the phone directly, and establish a connection. I don't see any reason to pay for internet service on a cell phone, when I have a service: I just need an occasional way to dial in on my cellular line. ...mostly when at NASCAR events, were there isn't any Wifi available.

I've found numerous "lots" of older, non-functioning laptops on e-bay of various makes and models. Would the skills gained from disassembling-reassembling Pentium Two laptops carry over much to repairing more recent laptops? If not, how new should they be, Pentium 3 600MHz or even newer? P.S. I'd rather spend less and get less out of it, but if I'm not going to get much of ANYTHING from working on Pentium 2's in your opinion, let me know. Thanks.
