Above are good suggestions. You can buy Internet Service DSL (Phone Company) or Cable (TV company) you will usually recieve a modem/router from both, but, they only for a direct connect with an Ethernet Cable. You go to Best Buy, Wal-Wort etc. and buy a Wire Router that will connect to the DSL/Cable Modem and then it will transmit you your wireless card. Another option is find a "Hotspot" this where people have a wireless router and allow others to connect to it. There are Coffee Shops and places like that and they may be a Hotspot and some college campus have a hotspot. You can also do a search for wireless hotspots and find web-sites that tell where they are for your area.

I did a quick search and not sure how good this one is, but, there are many. I found one a few years ago and located a hotspot at the college not far and a coffee shop.

Wireless means it is capable of receiving Wi-Fi signals from an access point (wireless router). You need DSL internet (or cable) and run it into a wireless router. You can go to a local Barnes & Noble or coffee shop they would probably have it. All you do is scan for wireless networks, click on one, and you can get online. The ones at Barnes and Noble you gotta pay for. Most airports have free Wi-Fi (except philadelphia..meanies)..
