Are there any cell phones that can be used directly with a notebook and PCMCIA modem to dial into the internet? I know there are a ton of phone that can connect to a PC, which the phone companies additional charge for internet. That's not what I'm asking for. I'm asking about a phone that can be used like a regular phone line, a modem, and a notebook to dial into the internet using my existing service. Are there phones that can be linked to a PCMCIA card that allow the notebook to dial the phone directly, and establish a connection. I don't see any reason to pay for internet service on a cell phone, when I have a service: I just need an occasional way to dial in on my cellular line. ...mostly when at NASCAR events, were there isn't any Wifi available.

You can do this, however you need to check the make and model of the phone to see if it is DUN capable. DUN stands for Dial Up Networking.

Most phones are able to connect to a PC or Laptop via a USB cable. All you need is to get the modem drivers (probably 3rd party) and have data services enabled on your calling plan.

You also have to be in a PCS or Nationwide service plan in order to access the data.

It will be fairly slow...probably more like fast dialup, but it will work okay. You will have to configure the phone and connection settings on a phone per phone basis.

The Treo 700P can connect you to the internet without any configuration and a few others.

Good Luck

A cellular modem is a modem making use of a cellular telephone, they're very gradual and hense fee a lot of money to apply, i'd guestimate the finest time as i keep in mind, that they run at about 14000 baud, a quarter of the speed of a 56k modem and it may also be the question above.

I'm with Sprint, and I have a Treo 700p. If you already have internet service on your phone (EVDO), you can connect your phone to a laptop through a USB cable, and access the internet. Sprint doesn't know your using it on a laptop unless you tell them, and the only reason people tell them is because Sprint doesn't release the Windows software to allow that unless you sign up for the mobile broadband service... BUT, there are programs you can download for free, and you DON'T have to tell Sprint. One that works perfect with my Treo 700 is PDANet. Excellent program, and very easy to use. I connect to the internet through my friends laptop using my phone all the time, and I avoid the extra $40 a month that they would have added to my $20 EVDO service. Reminder: You must have the EVDO internet service for your phone to connect to the internet. Its usually $20 extra a month.

what your asking is not possible that i know of since your mobile would need to dial, an dialup number so you would need to pay for the airtime. and u would connect the phone via a datacable or via bluetooth.
best idea is to contact your internet service provider.

Yes, you can do that. I believe that most motorola cellphones can connect to your laptop through USB, and be able to conenct to the Internet.
