I want to upgrade my RAM and I was wondering if there was a site where i can look up the type kind of memory I have in a my laptop, it's a gateway 520hx. I was wondering if I could swap out the 512Mb with 1Gb, essentially having 2x 1Gb memory instead of 2x 512Mb. Thanks!

Your manual is a great resource. It will tell you what size of RAM it is compatible with and the pin speeds. Most likely in the motherboard section.

your ram is DDR2 SDRAM
and you need a memories that is DDR2 or SDRAM
they will both work with your computer (according to http://www.gateway.com/accessories/ )
