Laptops & Notebooks - March 2007

I have an HP Pavilion zt1145 series laptop. For a while now it will not read any disks. This is really bad, especially since I am trying to play the system recovery disks that came with it.

Also when I go to My Computer the CD/DVD drive "D" is not there at all. I noticed that it is there on my pc.
Does this mean something? Oh and when I put in the CD there is no reaction at all.

How can I solve this? Please help.

i Live in singapore and my laptop charger's connection point(the part where the charger is connected to the laptop) is loose. is it possible to just repair tht part?

Recently my HP DV1000 series notebook's touchpad has gone dead. Even after pressing the touchpad button several times the mouse cursor does not move. I've tried re-installing the OS (windows xp home) and installing updated drivers for the touchpad. It still does not work. Can anybody help?

is it really that even if i have a dual core processor, if the application doesn't support multithreading, the process time will take exactly like what it take on single core?

and i'm contemplating on whether getting a e1405 or 1505. now i know the 1505 is a bit bigger [and cheaper?], but which one would hold up better[long battery life, etc]?

I have two laptops with motherboards that died. But I assume the hardrives are fine. (I know how to remove the hard drives from the laptop. How do I transfer the contents of the old hardrives to my new computer? I understand I may need to buy a device to do this with. Thank you for any response!

Ok. I have 2 slots for memory on my dell E1505. Both are filled with 512 s of ram. So altogether i have 1 gig. I want to be ready for vista in the near future. So will vista home premium run AS GOOD as my laptop runs xp with just 1 gig. Or will i have to shell out the $ to get 1 1/2 gigs of ram?

Whats a good brand of ram thats cheap too then?

I have new dell laptop with a 60 gb harddrive in it now. But i have a serial ATA harddrive that i use to use for my desktop but the desktop crashed and i need some information off of the drive...i have a Serial ATA power supply and data cord...and i was wondering if i could use the power supply to power the harddrive and use the cord to plug in the laptop. Is this possible? and if so is there anything that could go wrong..last thing i need is to screw up a brand new 1000 dollar laptop =/ thank you very much...

I was installing he new Itunes version when my computer notebook freezes! I wait 10 minutes I try CTRL+ALT+DELETE but nothing happens. So I turn it off from its main power button. Now when I try turning it on and right away a messages appears saying Enter PASSWORD on this black background screen. I thought they were talking about the administrator password but that was not it. My notebook is a THOSHIBA SATELLITE A130/A135 series resource guide. PLEASE I BEG YOU WHAT DO I DO????????? HOW CAN I FIX IT???????

Toshiba M45 S355 laptop. Worked fine two weeks ago. Now it "burns" for about two minutes, then says "there was an error" and stops. Tried two different brands of blank CDs and three different software applications (all of which previously worked). Also tried reducing the burn speed to 24X, 16X, 8X. Reduced the content being copied from 600MB to 400MB and then to 200MB. Also tried copying an entirely different set of files. Ran two different antivirus scans and found nothing. Shut down all unnecessary applications to reduce the load on system resources. Still getting the same problem.

Any ideas?

i am trying to purchase a laptop for $500 or less. i need to know what type of processor is best (and which one is best to get so computer won't get outdated quickly) intel dual core, amd turion, or other type? also i need a good amt of memory for storing downloaded music and pics. i also would like to be able to burn cd's and dvd's. also should i get vista or xp cause i hear there are alot of problems with vista especially on laptops.also i need laptop to be wireless as well as have ethernet plug. lastly all i use my computer for is to surf the net, listen to and download music, and to download and print and share pics. i have found lots of laptops under 500 on the net at several sites i just need to know what it is i need the computer to have to do the things i want it to do as i stated above. cause i have no idea about processor types, comp speeds, memory , etc. please help me whoever helps me choose the computer i purchase gets the points. thanx in advance

i got a 15x12 edge to edge screen on a laptop and i am planning on putting a image on the back side! on ebay they sell custom skins but i think they are asking to much for them! so i decided i can make one for really cheap! i don't need to cover edge to edge! the size of the image i am going to put is 8x10 i was thinking sticker paper but don't know if it will damage my notebook and if it will hold up! any one got any ideas how i could make one? i was thinking on glue (paper stick kind) but again issue with damaging backside!!! planning on doing ps2/ps3!

My computer has been acting up lately, it freezed internet explorere doesn't work well, neither does my window media player.. i want to restore it to when it was brand new, however i don't have the reboot disk.. can it be done?

I want to format it so that it doesnt have any thing on the disk, completely nothing at all. I have tried using the bootable disk of windows XP but I will format it and will have Xp installed in it again.
I dont want any other operating system .
Have you heard of any bootable Program that will format the disk entirely?
