Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Find the last available date and restore to there. Note: all programs/Windows updates will be removed that were installed after that date, however all files will not be deleted.

Depending on how old your system is the restore can be done without the disks on boot up you would either need to tap one of the F keys like F11 or F10 and it should bring you up to your restore menu most of the newer systems that were manufactured in 2006 have the ability to restore without the disk so it all depends on your system. Other then that you can either create a set of disks "Depending on the system" in start and all programs under recovery console or drivers and applications or you can call the manufacture and order one which would either be 20$ at the most or depending they might wave the fee.

Big Q is on the right track but a system restore point will not restore it to factory defaults since you have lost your XP disc you have basically two options

1 you get a hold of a friends XP disc to restore your Laptop or

2 if it was a restore disc that came with your laptop and not a xp disc you can most likely just order the disc from the manufacturer

To open System Restore, open your Start Menu, go to Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, then click on System Restore.
