I have two laptops with motherboards that died. But I assume the hardrives are fine. (I know how to remove the hard drives from the laptop. How do I transfer the contents of the old hardrives to my new computer? I understand I may need to buy a device to do this with. Thank you for any response!

You will need to buy a hard drive enclosure, but first you need to determine what kind you need. Typical desktop hard drives are 3.5", and most enclosures you find only support those size drives. Typical laptop hard drives are of the 2.5" variety, unless you're using a superslim/ultralight notebook. Chances are you have 2.5" drives though.
Also, check to see what kind of interfaces your laptop hard drives have. If they were built in 2005 or earlier, you can almsost guarantee that they will have some form of an IDE drive. However, newer laptops may have a serial ATA (SATA) drive. If you have the specifications of your laptops, they should tell you what you've got. Otherwise, you can search for replacement drives on a site like newegg.com and look at the pictures. Compare your drive to those to determine the interface.
After you've done all that, do a search on your favorite online tech dealer's website for a 2.5" enclosure. Generally, they run $20-40 for a decent one.
After you get the hard drive in the enclosure, it works just like a flash drive. Once you plug the enclosure into your computer (either through USB or firewire), it will appear in "My Computer" as a separate drive with a new drive letter. All you have to do is copy and paste from this point. =D

You can get an adapter that will connect a laptop drive up to a desktop PC... I bought one off ebay for about £5 /$10 a couple of years ago.

You can get an external case that you plug a laptop drive into and it converts it into a usb connectable external drive. Costs about £10-£20 on ebay.

Either way, the disk can then be seen by Windows Explorer so you can drag/drop files as you like.

The second way gives you an external hard drive you can use for backing up important stuff from your laptop afterwards.

My best guess is this, you can get a kit, to put the old hard drives in, and then hook to USB. From there you can get something off, pictures, documents, but the installed stuff, will not transfer because your old computers died. If they would run, the XP disc will help you transfer you files.

My advice is to get rid of the force from the laptop and then get rid of the force from it bay holder. Now you have 2 strategies. you are able to purchase an adapter the adapts from 3 a million/2 to 2 inch and set up in you domicile laptop as a slave force. the 2d is to purchase what they call a majic container (or something exterior container which will carry your force) and placed the force into it and plug the USB cable into yet another laptop. It sees the force as a removeable force and you will possibly be able to reproduction the archives you desire to the gadget you're plugged into
