I have an HP Pavilion zt1145 series laptop. For a while now it will not read any disks. This is really bad, especially since I am trying to play the system recovery disks that came with it.

Also when I go to My Computer the CD/DVD drive "D" is not there at all. I noticed that it is there on my pc.
Does this mean something? Oh and when I put in the CD there is no reaction at all.

How can I solve this? Please help.

Try this: Right click on "My Computer", then click on "Properties". Then click on the "Hardware" tab on top, and then on "Device Manager". Scroll through the listings to find your DVD/CD drive. Right click on it, and choose "Uninstall". Once that's done, exit from there, and reboot the computer. Windows should see the drive as "New Hardware" and reinstall the correct drivers for it. Then try a CD or DVD in the drive again. Hope this helps.

if the drive D isnt there when you click my computer it means that your computer cant detect the hardware... maybe its hardware failure or your CDrom is not working.. did it got wet or something that might cause some short circuit for your drive not to work.. i suggest you bring it to a HP center or customer service and have it tested...

Sounds like the CD/DVD drive is dead which means you need a new one.

that happened to me on my computer. i took it into the shop and turns out i had like 400 hijakers, viruses, etc... so it wasnt good. it was easily fixed tho, for $180. it might b different, but thats exactly what happened to me.

the lady at the shop told me i got the viruses from "free" music sites like limewire, and possibly attatchments. she said not to accept attatchments from people you don't know, and to only accept them over email, not instant messaging programs (because they don't check for viruses like email does).

hope that helps!
