which ever computer has the better upgrade. Both have about the same warranty. You could get the cheaper one, and buy a spare battery, if you want to be smart.
I have a older Dell, and the battery still runs 3 1/2 hours. I would get the highest RAM, and the right software. 80Gig hard drive is plenty. and Pentium 4 is a dependable processor.
Most of the weight is the battery.

I bought the Dell 1505 last September and wish I would have went with the Sony Vaio. I bought the laptop for my classwork. and even upgraded it. I've had a Vaio desktop for 6 years and still use it most of the time. It's worth the extra investment. But if you like Dell the 1505 is OK although I did have alot of problems in the beginning I think it's been fixed now.

Dell offers the 1405 with a 9 cells battery which will last about 5 hours, without music and using only one Internet page.
I think the price with an Intel Processor is about $1200 it weight about 5 lbs

I like to buy the refurbished ones at half price, with warranty, because most systems get stolen or broken in a school environment.

I like cheaptronicsdepot dot com cus they is near my home, and Pat and Greg are great at making sure these are the right stuff.

There are like 500 vendors doing the recently off-corporate-lease computers at cheap prices.

That is what I take to school, so no one steals it, but, it works fast enough for the school work.

I keep the real super stuff locked up at the dorm. Classrooms always have at least one thief!

I'd go for the 1505. It's more bang for the buck.
