I have roadrunner. The salesman at Best Buy told me that I can send it to geek squad to speed it up for a small fee, but I declined. Can anyone tell me how to speed it up? What do I have to delete or remove?

Just click on the yellow key and test anonymously. It is safe. I use it all the time. At the end, you will be offered something to buy, just check "no thanks." Recommendations will be made, will tell you how your computer compares to others and how fast it is running. It will let you know if computer is secure, etc. It is very informative.

Most new computers load too much running at startup. To fix that, go to Start, Run and type msconfig and then click OK. Dot in Selective Startup and then click on Startup (at top). Unclick some of the things you might not need. You can always undo so you can't mess up anything.

If you go to pcpitstop first, it will tell you if too much is running.

Dont listen to that idiot at best buy, your computer should not have slow internet out of the box. They make internet "faster" for dopes that have downloaded spyware that kills their browser. A vista config on a modern laptop should be fast.

the more likely explanation is that your wireless connection is weak, and slow. To test this, hook your computer up with the ethernet wire to your router. If it is faster then it is your wireless connection. If it is the same, and your other PC is fast, then it may be vista hogging all of the resources and making the laptop slow.

Call roadrunner, tell them you are running Vista and it is very slow. They are able to help you over the phone.

Just try deleting unimportant computer files and folders and run a virus scan to make sure that there are no computer viruses on it.

I'd take it back and wait for about 18 months and purchase it again once they get all the bugs out of it.

Vista was put out too soon before it was "debugged".
