It's taken 7&1/2 hours and 21 cd-r s so far and my new HP Pavillion dv6000 Special Edition still hasn't finished backing itself up. I haven't added any new files; it's only two days out of the box.
Is this normal?
How much longer & how many more cd-r s is this going to take?
Do I even really Need a backup?

The manual says to back up the 'entire operating system' by 'creating recovery disks'.
I agree it's a waste of time, money, cds, trying to back up the whole computer. Been driving me crazy!
Thanks to everyone who answered.

Okay well I think you are going about it wrong. First of all, cd's only hold 700mb and now laptops come with about 15 gb of junk installed which means a total system backup will take over 20 cds. The best option is this. Dont back up your whole system, just back up files you add. Like your music and documents. All that other junk can be recovered by reinstalling windows and the disks that come with your computer so there is no need to back it up. So when you add photos, music, documents etc, burn them to cd/dvd every so often so you always have 2 copys of everything. If your computer dies, you can replace the software on it, you cant replace your pictures unless you have a backup.

I think the only thing you should have backedup is your own personnal files like videos, documents, pictures, music..etc....Not your whole computer...Your new computer should have already came with the original CD's for the Operating system...So next time all you have to do is backup your own personnal files and folders...What your doing right now is backing up your whole computer...

Michael is right! Don't waste time and CDs on stuff that is already on the installation CD. Save only your personal stuff!

sure. i take advantage of AVS video converter and 50 minute video clips take around an hour or so. It relies upon on the linked fee of your laptop too bro. Which application you utilize would not quite have plenty to do with it. the only 2 factors are your laptop speed and the report length.
