You are probably trying to install MSN messanger (just a guess) and its indicating that it is not DEP compatable or somthing to that nature.
You can try the following and see if it works:
1) Right click on the Messenger shortcut icon on your desktop;
2) Click on Properties;
3) Click on the 'Shortcut' tab;
4) Click on the 'Advanced...' button;
5) Put a tick in the 'Run as Administrator' box & click OK.
Or change DEP settings:
Open System by selecting properties on My Computer
Click Advanced System Settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Under Performance, click Settings.
Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
Select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for, and then click OK.
If the program is not in the list, click Add. Browse to the Program Files folder, find the executable file for the program (it will have an .exe file extension), and then click Open.

An acer is a good laptop with an extremely good processor and ram and can carry a million.3 GB of actual memory. Acer owns gateway and that they are between the main greatest laptop companies. so i think of in case you improve it won't influence your laptop in any respect so bypass forward and improve. i even have an acer and it runs vista mind-blowing

take the computer back to where you got it from and get your money back
first the basic vista is a microsoft con just to get you to buy a computer with it on
Secoand you cant do anything with basic vista
go to a store and look at a vista box read what each version will do and you will fined that the basic version will do next to nothing
so take it back complain your having problems with it and you want your money back... I was reading in the press this week stores are expecting customers to return their products with complaints about vista so stand firm and demand your money back

THIS is HILARIOUS! I have been warning people NOT to get Vista..it wont even run MSN. See if you can get your money back on your computer. Or, at the very least, dump Vista and get kubuntu for free at www.kubuntu.org
