I have a 60gb harddrive partitioned into C and D. The D drive only has 5% freespace and is critically fragmented. It will not let me defrag it because there is not enough space to run the defragger. It has never been defraged before. I have a compaq Presario v5305WM notebook. I got it in December 06'. I cannot even run system recovery. what do I do to free space on the drive? and defrag it?

Right click start, then select explore, (do it twice so you have two browsers open, Then Just right click and copy Find a place on the C drive and paste the files there. Then delete the original file off the D drive. Then defrag. ( Some things can just be deleted, Like if you have a game that you used the CD to install, Like music, just delete those, if you have the original cd. If there programs you will want to uninstall them before deleteing the files.

Try to move some staffs from the D drive to C and then try the defrag. Also you can backup some big amount of stuffs from D and then run the defrag.

in case you're employing the equipped in gadget, make optimistic that no different software runs to break its job,you choose atleast 15% unfastened area (there are some 0.33 party kit that defrag with plenty lesser unfastened area- google for trial variations). For this you are able to uninstall courses which you dont choose, burn music, movies %. etc onto DVDs ets, run a diskcleanup(do away with temp records, recycle bin records, older fix factors) and you ought to have the skill to get some area unfastened. you will get carry of and run CCleaner that's an amazing cleansing application.
