I have a inspiron130 and it has a cd/dvd player--cd burner--is there some type of upgrade to a dvd burner---the dvd-r type

I would suggest you get an external USB dvd burner.
Upgrades for notebooks are expensive ...
This will save you money & allow you to use the burner on any PC you like.

I use an external DVD writer, which simply plugs into your USB port. Mine works well and cost me about $120.
