I have two questions regarding this machine and its hard drive:

#1. Can the harddrive from one unit be removed and installed in another R3000 serious laptop successfully? ... providiing that the proper drivers and can be installed for the hardware.

#2. How can I convert a harddrive into an external harddrive. (Can the harddrive be installed into a small case that allows you to hook it up to other computers via a USB port.?

I presently have a r3000 with a blown motherboard, and I will be purchasing another r3000, (slightly faster, and different CPU/ Ram) to replace it. Thanks for the help :)

#1 Yes, as long as it is the same model number. In other words, if you have the R32631 you probably can't simply transfer the drive to a R38600 without having to repair or reinstall windows. The hardware configuration will be different.

#2 All you have to do is go out and buy an enclosure. They run 20-25 bucks online.

Keep in mind that the parts for your old R3000 are still worth money on Ebay. You can probably sell the LCD for at least $175.
