Laptops & Notebooks - March 2007

I want to buy whatever it is I need to buy so my husband can record music at home on our computer. The problem is, it's a surprise so I can't ask him what he needs. He used to record a lot, but he no longer has an amp or p.a. or anything. We have a mac laptop that's about a year old. we have garage band. he has a microphone. i looked on the apple store site, and they had some usb interface things, and a friend told me to get an imic and a pre-amp and stuff, but I'm still confused and don't really know what I'm looking for. I imagine he would mostly just want to record acoustic guitar and vocals to start, possibly keyboard and a drum machine in the future. So what do I need to buy to get him started? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

problem is the @ key is where number 2 is and the " is where the @ key should be! and i cant find the british pound sign-- cos its supposed to be above the 3 but when i so shift and press it i get --->#

When I go to wireless connections, none appear and then I click on the refresh button and it tell me to switch on the wireless switch by going to the functions, but, I don't see the wireless icon.

Is it correct to do so or not. I have a magnet that has a smiling face that I'd like to stick on my CPU to hang papers on it and stuff, can I do that? if I can't then why??

I brought a SHARP -Mebius PC GP C5M laptop from japan with 256MB RAM,2.0 GHz processor.But unfortunately i lost the motherboard CD.Hence i can't install the VGA card.I was try to find a solution for this by surfing the internet.But yet i cant find a solution for it.So can you please help me

Our building at work has wifi, my boss took the laptop that we normally use here to Germany. When he tried to connect to the internet it said "no networks available". Is there a way to temporarily get service?

i have got a dell laptop which has a com port,so how can i know what number the com has is it com1 or com2 and can it be com21 because i remember i saw it before on my laptop saying com21.
if its com21 can i change it to com1-8 ?

It's a Dell Inspiron 1150, about 2 1/2 years old. 2.6 gh processor, 30 gb harddrive, 256 ram, cd rom but NO cd or dvd burner, 13.5" screen, windows xp.

it has lots of little problems:

the ac adapter no longer works (can be replaced for about $80)
the cd-rom no longer works
the ethernet port does not work
the computer runs pretty slowly
one of the keys is missing
it has lots of little scratches etc.


what is a reasonable price to ask? Thanks for your help.

Okay, well my laptop wont turn on. I've done alot of research about what could be the cause; I read somewhere that it could need to be reset, I would do this by removing the battery, HD, and the memory stick. When I got to the memory part.. I discovered that there was no memory in the laptop :\. ( someone stole it?) Anyways, with the laptop having no memory would this cause it not to turn on with no lights or fans after i press the Power Button? Plz help!

I was told that you should not put a lap top computer directly ones lap..the heat? or some other problem? well, i am thinking of buying one and would appreciate any input on the saftety and also are they as durable (hold up_) as good as a standard desk top compuer? i know they cost more..but is it worth the cost?

I have a Acer Travelmate 2300 which is a laptop and something is wrong with the cd drive it wont read my cd's I think its probably the laser or something but I was wondering if there are any stores or any websites where I can get a replacement or at least another cd drive that I can hook up to my usb for cheap.

ROM module....if so what does it cost and where do I get them? On the internet what looks like it may fit the bill, ranges from about $30 -$300 so they can't be the same functions....I ONLY want it to play regular dvd movies...it does not have to burn or copy dvd's etc..what is the name of the device i am looking for.is it a DVD Rom Module ?..I have gotten many conflicting answers so I guess I am not phrasing the question properly..any suggestion on models...and some l haves seen have specs of 8X or 16X etc....is there a minimum I need to play a dvd ..thanks
