My ideal laptop will fit the following requirements:

1.) Lightweight, not more than 1.3kg
2.) Built-in modem, bluetooth
3.) Presentable
4.) Budget $2000 --- 2nd Hand is fine.

I personally like Fujitsu, HP, Toshiba.

Okay... I know its an older laptop, but other than this, there's nothing wrong with the lap top. I reinstalled windows xp about 4 months ago, and reinstalled all the drivers accordingly. Then one day last month, i would get static over any audio then after 30 to 40 seconds it would resume normal operation. This happens quite often with a 5 to 10 minute relief in between and ruins any audio experience. This happens even if i use ear phones or connect to large speakers, whether i am playing a game, mp3 or movie. I'm open to thoughts as to what it is and how to solve it.

I want to preserve my laptop battery while I normally have it plugged to the AC. Instead of taking out the battery from my laptop, is there anything in the device manager to disable so my battery isn't charging while plugged to the AC? It seems Microsoft should invent something to give you the option to charge or not while using the AC.

My computer is making random noises. I KNOW it's not a dying fan, because they're like, familiar sounds and it's always different. Sometimes it's the AIM received message sound, sometimes it's the beginning of a song (I don't have ANY music on my computer... it's a new hard drive), sometimes it's a Windows system sound. I don't have any themes on, and I don't have any processes running that shouldn't be. What is going on?

I purchase a Dell Latitude C610 a few years ago. It had a operating system of Windows 2000. For some reason it just crashed on me. Nothing would work. A complete crash much to my dissapointment.
Recenty I decided to try and get it going again. I installed Windows XP and got it back up again. Now I am trying to make an internet connection but when I do, I am told it is unable to detech a modem. How do I add the modem so I am able to connect to the internet? I have checked the settings and they show everything is enable. Contacted Dell but no help. Thanks for any help. I would be thankful just to be able to connect to the internet once again. Can I purchase a new modem? How would I install it?

I have a Compaq Presario 1245 laptop that I have been working on to make better, by adding parts from a Gateway Solo 1450. I replaced the 1.5 Gb HD with a 30 Gb HD, and I added a 256 Mb RAM module. The max memory is 160, so it is sitting right at that amount. I dont know if the Gateway processor is compatible with the Compaq, but its better and faster and i would like to add it if possible. My question is, since the memory is allready maxed out, will adding a faster processor even help, or is it a waste of time?? And please dont say "buy a new laptop", cause thats not an option right now.

It's been 2 days since I started using my Aspire laptop. with 1G RAM, Windows XP Media Center Edition. The only programs I installed were Norton Antivirus and Windows Party.

Now, it takes at least 6 minutes before I see all the desktop icons.

When I do the ctrl-alt-delete, the CPU shows that there is no activity. When I take a look at the "processes", i see a long list of programs that show SYSTEM or my name as the user.

What do I do to get the laptop back to its fast startup????

I am thinking about an alienware laptop, but I am not sure that it would be good for school. Could you reccomend a very portable laptop that's good for school, but still has some nice gaming capabilities. I would prefer on that has a built-in wireless internet access port (if possible).

I appreciate your help!
