I have a Compaq Presario 1245 laptop that I have been working on to make better, by adding parts from a Gateway Solo 1450. I replaced the 1.5 Gb HD with a 30 Gb HD, and I added a 256 Mb RAM module. The max memory is 160, so it is sitting right at that amount. I dont know if the Gateway processor is compatible with the Compaq, but its better and faster and i would like to add it if possible. My question is, since the memory is allready maxed out, will adding a faster processor even help, or is it a waste of time?? And please dont say "buy a new laptop", cause thats not an option right now.

The processor is probably for a different socket and/or chipset and won't work.

The processor probably won't work because it uses a different socket. Check how many pins your processor has and what kind of socket it uses. If the compaq processor uses the same socket and has the same pins, then maybe, but I still would doubt it. Adding a faster processor will help a little, but not that much to be honest.

change the hardpersistent for an SSD like the Corsair GT in case you dont ideas having a lot less area. You wont believe the enormous difference it makes. The cpu and memory improve will be virtually unnoticeable and a waste of money.

its wont.....the thing is that the prossessor will not fit in the mother board.....so just try doing a clean install of the windows, and try disabling as much themes, and optional services to make it as fast as possible..
