I would go with IBM anyday. They are not bulky like Toshiba and some Dells, reasonably priced unlike Sony and are the most stable according to me. You need to compare laptops with similar specs for you to have a fair comparison though. Sony laptops are pretty and less bulky but for the price??? not too sure if it's worth it when you can get other systems just as good. It really depends on what you want to use the laptop for and of course your pocket. I have used HP / Compaq, Dell, Sony and IBM laptops and they all have good qualities though I don't really like HP. If you want to upgrade and eventually sell your laptop maybe on Ebay, the best sellers are in this order: Sony, IBM / Dell, Toshiba, HP/Compaq, Packard Bell IGO , no-name brands...

Wow. People are so ignorant and missing out on so much. HP? You got to be kidding me. Walmart sells those. Apple is the ultimate laptop out there right now. This is coming from a guy who has used Dell's for YEARS and Gateway for the first computer. I just "switched" and it truly is what they say it is. Look at the Consumer Reports if you don't believe me. They provide unbiased ratings of everything and they rate reliability and performance through the roof (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/computers/buying-a-computer-306/windows-or-macintosh/index.htm).

Reliable? It's the best

Price? $999-$2,000

Performance? Most professionals out there who do anything that requires speed, precision and dependability use Apple (majority of Audio, Video and other intensive applications are run on Macs)

Oh and the new Vista which is going to come on any new computer you buy? It sucks. People are calling it the Mac wannabe. The only difference? It's 5 years behind Mac. We're about to get another new operating system....on schedule.

Ok that's my biased opinion.

Now for a PC (if you must lol), Dell is probably what I would recommend. I've bought 20-30 from them for our company and they seem to rank best with reliability and price (not being Walmart garbage).

Cheers.

Dell hands down...first of all it's not as pricey as the countless other laptops you see around the world which is the first thing you'll notice.

Then of course, it's sturdy, has an excellent tech support, loads of choice to pick from, can be customized if you wanted, heck anything a Laptop dreamer can want, Dell can deliver.

Just get Dell...never had problems with it...

If u are lookiing for high performance and rock solid built , go for Alienware or dell. For quality and security, I'd recommend the gud old Thinkpads from IBM (Lenovo). Toshiba's also doin' gud nowadays.

This applies only to high performance laptops:
The best recommended one for gaming, home use etc. is Dell.
For desktop replacement office users, go for Thinkpad.

It truly boils all the way down to the old question, What do you do with the computer?? Gameing then sure the Alienware is your decision in my view I want the MacBook professional over HP or any othe manufacture because you do not ought to agonize about each of the crap like you do with a homestead windows depending computer.

I had a Dell at work and unfortunately dropped it and the screen broke, it was replaced by an IBM which is much slower and annoying so I would definitely have the Dell back if I could!

The best laptop dancer I ever met was "ingrid". For the money, she was quite reliable and performed like a thoroughbred.
