Personally I wouldn't even touch a dell mouse with a bargepole.

I would have to say no. Out of the two laptops I've had from Dell (both within the last year), both of them were defective. After only a month with one of the laptops, the screen and then the hard drive had to be replaced...
If you ever need technical support, the only thing you can count on is being on hold for many hours and then being transferred to another department.
If you do get a laptop from dell, go for an XPS model, which is supposed to have better technical support...

When will people understand???? Laptop brand names do not matter at all. They have no relevance whatsoever. The laptop purchase game is about getting the most for your money. Whichever brand name offers the highest specifications for the lowest price is a good brand name. You should be more concerned about the specifications. An intel core 2 duo processor is the tops right now. Look for a 100-160gb hard drive on a laptop. Get at least 1gb DDR RAM (up to 2gb if you can afford it) You of course want a DVD-RW drive. And if it's a company that throws in extras at a reasonable price, go for it. (webcam, media card reader, etc.)

I personally have never been a big fan of big companies that mass produce computers .because i custom build computers.but i had a bad car accident and my insurance company bought me a new laptop so i can go back to school .they bought me a Dell Inspiron 9400 and all i can say is WOW ..what an amazing piece of machinery..it's very fast and reliable i've had it almost 6 months now and there are no signs of it slowing down .it's never froze or crashed on me..i have also been going to a specialist for some medical reasons and his office has close to a dozen Dell Desktops and i talked to the girls and guys that use them and they all say the same thing..great very fast and bullet proof machines..so easy to say i have been converted and i 100% suggest someone purchase a Dell.

My daughter and I have had Dell Inspiron 1300s for nearly a year and they are fine. As far as the offshore thing is concerned the Dell A and Dell B plant in Limerick, Ireland produce for Europe. I've a Samsung X20 as well which is a brand I can also recommend.

I've had three and they all worked fine, including the one I'm using right now. My oldest one is 5 years old and still works well. On the other hand Dell is big on off shoring American jobs so if you if you want to make a statement don't buy Dell. Mine were all bought before I found out they were shipping jobs overseas.

They have a reputation for exploding. Foolishly I ignored this and bought one. It didn't explode because it didn't even work when it was delivered. I have heard other bad stories. Obviously most are good, but i wouldn't trust 'em. They're unreliable.
