A DVD+R is a once-writable optical disc with 4.7 GB (4.377 GiB) of storage capacity (more precisely, 2295104 sectors of 2048 bytes each). It has slightly less storage capacity than the DVD-R (4.382 GiB). The format was developed by a coalition of corporations, known as the DVD+RW Alliance, in mid 2002. Since the DVD+R format is a competing format to the DVD-R format, which is developed by the DVD Forum, it has not been approved by the DVD Forum, which claims that the DVD+R format is not an official DVD format.

Neither one is necessarily better than the other. When DVD burners first came out, they either supported +R or -R but not both. Then within a year, we started seeing dual-format support. So today, it's not really an issue.
Both are just about equal when it comes to compatibility with set-top DVD players. If you buy +R and it can't be read by your DVD player, try a different brand. If it still doesn't work, try -R. The same is true if you started out with -R and had issues, it would just be vice-versa. There are a lot of options to help solve compatibility issues.

Benrauf (below) apparently just picked one, LOL! There is nothing out there that supports one format being better than the other. So don't be fooled - some just like to show their preference!! J*Lee (below) also appears to be taking a stab, but again it's just not true...

There are some technical transformations between both, there is also DVD-RAM and Blu-ray now besides. that's a distinct medium, only a distinct format of DVD. you should first make certain what your DVD burner helps (should be both on the packaging of the DVD burner or a minimum of on the web website of the producer), then you definately favor to make certain what your DVD participant on your television helps (similar issue, both on the packaging or webiste), ultimately, in the journey that they both are supported by ability of your recorder and participant, get a small %. of both and burn a similar action picture and note which seems more beneficial useful on your television. sturdy success.

DVD-R is a widely recognized format for older DVD players and media readers. I always use DVD-R. Use DVD+R for newer stuff, but its not about the - or +. Its about the Brand.
