Get a laptop cooling fan unit. They work great, I'm using mine right now.

The fan on the laptop is usually on the bottom of the laptop. I have found that if you use a stiff folder or a tray under it, it allows it to breath and it will not over heat as quickly. They were not really designed to be used on your lap.. Try that and see if it helps. I use a tv tray on my lap to give it a flat surface to sit on. It stopped the over heating on my laptop.

First, make sure you are not blocking the fans with your pant legs.

That is the most common issue. The vents on the back and bottom of the laptop need to be clear of obstructions in order to properly cool down the laptop. Try setting it on something hard and flat, like a large(not thick) book and put the book on your lap.

Either that, or stick to using it on a table.

Also, make sure the vents are clean by spraying it out with a little compressed air.

Sounds like your laptop needs more ventilation. Try getting a block of something that doesn't conduct heat and rest the laptop on that before you put it on your lap. You could also try raising the laptop by sticking small wooden blocks on the bottom, so air can get underneath.

Yeah I actually have a similar problem and as quickly because it did certainly close down too. i think of its because of fact once you have it on your lap or on a mattress and so on, the fan can not artwork precise, meaning that the laptop starts off to overheat. you will apply it to your lap, merely save an eye fixed on how warm its getting and if it feels too warm apply it to a table for a jointly as until its cooled down.

Just put a pillow under the lap top, assuming you're at home. Other than that, a cooling fan would do the trick.

I would look on ebay for a laptop cooler. They have some great deals on there and you should be able to find one for as little as $15. I got mine off of there and it works great!!!!
